Obama Foundation Leaders Program

Overview

The Obama Foundation Leaders Program is now accepting applications for its 2025-2026 cohort! This transformative initiative empowers emerging leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the common good. Through this program, the Obama Foundation aims to inspire, empower, and connect a diverse regional cohort of changemakers, equipping them to accelerate positive, lasting change in their communities, regions, and across the globe.

About the Leaders Program

Launched in Africa in 2018 and since expanded to Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States, the Leaders Program builds a network of innovative, values-driven changemakers. Participants—aged 24 to 45—represent a wide array of sectors, fostering inclusive, thriving societies where everyone belongs and can participate. Inspired by President Obama’s leadership approach, the program helps participants:

  • Develop a values-based foundation for sustained leadership.
  • Build relationships to drive lasting, inclusive change.
  • Tackle systematic challenges in their communities.

Program Benefits;

Participants engage in dynamic activities, including;

  • Weekly Virtual Video Calls
  • Monthly Community Groups
  • Individualized Leadership Coaching

Upon completion, participants join the Obama Leadership Network, a global alumni community of over 1,200 changemakers.

Eligibility Criteria;

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen, permanent resident, or have resided in an African country or territory for at least five years.
  • Focus on creating positive change in Africa or its local communities.
  • Have at least three years of relevant leadership experience.
  • Be proficient in English and between 24–45 years of age as of September 1, 2025.

Program Details;

  • Duration: September 2025 – May 2026 (with breaks).
  • Commitment: Participants must refrain from participating in electoral campaigns during the program.
  • Location: Virtual, with potential for U.S.-based in-person programming.
